How To Be Goal-Oriented
Becoming Goal-Oriented In Life

Have you ever imagined being among the most successful people in the world? If yes, then you must know how to be goal-oriented to achieve your BIG Dream.

Becoming a successful person doesn’t manifest in imagination. Becoming a role model requires more than ‘I will make it’ affirmation.

It takes action, determination, and sometimes long-suffering to achieve greatness. You must set goals for yourself while you strive to achieve them at the right time.

Ask Bill Gates of Microsoft; Ask Aliko Dangote — Forbes’ Africa’s richest man in 2019; You can make enquiries from Jackman of Alibaba.

They will tell you success is meant for goal-oriented individuals who know when to set targets, the type of targets, and how to achieve their targets.

With the long introduction, I don’t think you need someone to tell you the importance of being a goal-oriented person in your quest for a better and productive life.

However, the question is: Who is a Goal-Oriented person, what is the meaning of goal oriented, and what does it mean to be goal oriented?

Who Is A Goal-oriented Person?

As mentioned above, a goal-oriented individual is someone disciplined enough to set targets and meet them within a set period.

A goal-oriented person is a self-disciplined individual who can go the extra mile (legally) to achieve his goals regardless of situations around him.

To be goal oriented means to be focused on achieving your goals. It means to avoid distractions that could prevent you from reaching your set goals.

The meaning of goal oriented simply means being driven by the urge and desire to achieve specific goals.

How To Become A Goal-oriented Individual?

Becoming a goal oriented individual isn’t a cumbersome task; it only needs you to alter your habits.

You need to drop some unproductive habits, such as laziness, while you develop new habits that will propel you towards achieving your God-given purpose in life.

You’ve got to be self-disciplined, trustworthy, and determined to achieve your targets.

Meanwhile, below are the things to do to be a better goal-oriented person:

1. Plan Your Day

An average goal-oriented individual lives a planned and organized life. He/she knows what to do and how to get it done at the right time.

As soon as you get up from bed, make a to-do list that will help you utilize the 24 hours of your day.

However, don’t forget to create time for recreational activities because “all work without play makes Jack a dull boy.”

2. Set Your Goals/ Targets

To be goal-oriented means having a mission to accomplish. Hence, you’ve got to write down your targets or goals.

It could be annual, monthly, or daily targets depending on your choice. Meanwhile, the things to know when setting your goals include the following:

  • Your goals must be realistic.
  • Your goals must enhance your dream and purpose for living.
  •  Be specific while listing your goals or targets
  • You mustn’t compromise your value or self-esteem to attain your targets or goals
  • Share your targets with friends or relatives who can motivate and inspire you.
  • Your goals must be exciting but challenging because you need to leave your comfort zone to succeed.

A 70-year-old motivational baseball speaker, Steve Garvey, once said:

“You have to set goals that are almost out of reach. If you set a goal that is attainable without much work or thought, you are stuck with something below your true talent and potential.”

3. Never Give Up On Your Missions

According to Joseph Patrick Kennedy, in his famous quote, the tough gets going when the going gets tough.

There could be obstacles on your way to fulfilling your goals in life. However, your never-say-no attitude will help you become a better goal-oriented person because you won’t quit easily.

4. Have Authority Over Your Actions

Setting a goal isn’t the only thing required to be a goal-oriented individual; you must learn to control your actions.

This is where self-discipline comes in; it helps you do the right thing at the right time.

5. Find Ways To Motivate Yourself

Self-motivation means self appraisal. It means encouraging and motivating oneself to do greater exploits. It involves rewarding yourself after recording a little or landmark achievement.

Self motivation includes doing things you love and cherish. Engaging in activities that will make you feel better and happy.

Self motivation will undoubtedly help you become a goal-oriented individual because you know there is a reward for every accomplishment.

6. Track Your Progress

It’s one thing to set goals, it’s another thing to know how far you’ve gone in the mission to achieving them.

Hence, tracking your progress gives you clear hints on how productive you’ve been in your quest to achieve your set goals and targets.

7. Have A Good Company

Your company can make or destroy you. Your friends and connections have a significant impact on your chances of being a better person.

Being around wayward and unmotivated people will affect your life negatively.

Therefore, it’s important you mingle with people with vision and sound minds who can inspire you.

Top Two Goal-oriented Principles

Below are the  two strategic rules that will help you become a better goal-oriented individual if you implement them.

1. Sharma’s 90/90/1 Rule

55-year-old Canadian writer Robin Sharma established this rule in his motivational posts via his website.

According to him, you need to devote 90 minutes of your time towards achieving ONE primary goal for the next 90 days. During the 90 minutes, you won’t pick calls, no messages, no conversations of any kind.

You are only committed to achieving the primary (number one) target.

2. Pareto’s 80/20 Rule

Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto established this rule in 1895 when he said: “20% of your activities will account for 80% of your results”

It means every effort you put into achieving your top two life-changing goals will play a significant role in determining your future.

Hence, you should endeavor to achieve the first two significant missions on your ‘to-do’ list as they will encourage you to accomplish the rest.

Importance Of Being Goal-oriented

1. It Enhances Productivity

Here is one of the greatest reasons why you should become a goal-oriented individual.

Setting goals and achieving them makes you productive in life as you will accomplish many things or tasks.

Meanwhile, it’s important you learn easy ways to be productive so you won’t find it difficult to become a better version of yourself.

2. It Ensures Brighter Future

Being a better target-oriented person guarantees a brighter future because you would be productive.

The fact that you would give all it takes to achieve your goals means you will enjoy a better and brighter future.

However, being a goal-oriented person isn’t the only requirement for a bright future.

You must be proactive and ready to take actions. It’s not enough to set goals, you must deploy ways to accomplish them.

3. It Helps You Avoid Unnecessary Activities

Setting goals and achieving them keeps you busy. It leaves you with little to no time for unproductive chats or activities.

Being goal-oriented means you don’t have time for unnecessary discussions or activities until you reach your targets.

Conclusion

Being goal-oriented is non-negotiable for anyone willing to be successful in life.

However, it’s not the only requirement for greatness. You must be hardworking, prayerful, humble and willing to take corrections from experienced people.
